West Barnstable
A rural, historic village along Route 6A β home to the West Barnstable Conservation Area, the Cape Cod Community College, and a strong tradition of environmental stewardship.
History & Overview
West Barnstable is a rural village in the northwestern part of the Town of Barnstable, stretching from Route 6A along Cape Cod Bay southward through forests and conservation lands. The village is one of the oldest settled areas of Barnstable, with the West Parish Meetinghouse (1717) serving as a landmark of early Cape Cod religious and civic life.
Today, West Barnstable is known for its rural character, conservation lands, and Cape Cod Community College. Route 6A through the village features antique shops, small businesses, and the West Barnstable Tables workshop (a well-known custom furniture maker). The village is less densely developed than most of Barnstable's other villages, with large tracts of protected woodland and freshwater ponds.
